THE CHALLENGE

Making a conversational AI usable for everyone

Botcopy builds AI-first chatbots on Google Cloud Dialogflow with modular frontend components, for clients with strict compliance needs. The chatbot had to be fully accessible across its frontend and backend without losing its conversational capability.

  1. Chatbot frontend components that needed to meet WCAG 2.1 AA.
  2. Backend-driven messages that had to be announced accessibly.
  3. Strict client compliance requirements to satisfy.
  4. Language handling that had to adapt per message.
OUR APPROACH

Iterative audits, collaborative redesign, documented conformance

We ran multiple audit rounds across the chatbot's frontend and backend, collaborated with Botcopy's engineers to redesign components to standard, issued a VPAT and ACR, and guided per-message language attributes.

Iterative auditing

Multiple rounds of accessibility audits across the chatbot's frontend and backend components.

Collaborative redesign

Worked with Botcopy's engineers to redesign components to meet WCAG 2.1 AA.

VPAT and ACR issuance

Issued a VPAT and ACR documenting the chatbot's accessibility features and known limitations.

Per-message language attributes

Guided language-attribute support so clients can adjust message language for a more inclusive experience.

THE IMPACT

Compliant, and still conversational

  • The chatbot met and exceeded WCAG 2.1 AA compliance requirements.
  • Frontend and backend components redesigned accessibly without losing capability.
  • A VPAT and ACR documenting conformance and known limitations.
  • Per-message language attributes for a more inclusive experience.
